Guess whose boat won yesterday's Regata delle Repubbliche Marinare...

...that took place in Amalfi? It was host Amalfi!! Venice's boat came in second, followed by Pisa and Genoa.

The boats were made in a cantiero di gondole in Venice.

This fabulous Regata event takes place in Amalfi every four years, it is boats manned by teams from the four Italian cities and regions, the former Maritime Republics Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice that contend this race. Though it is Venice that won most races, actually 30 times since the inception of the Regata in 1955.

A colorful celebration of Mediterranean history... next year it remains to be seen whether Pisa will be hosting the event, they might switch with Genoa.
